Tom’s practice is concentrated on representing financial institutions and businesses in litigation. Prior to joining Riemer & Braunstein, Tom worked with clients on complex cases involving creditors’ rights, commercial foreclosures, financial institution liability, and contract disputes. Tom has also handled a number of class actions and complex multi-party, multi-jurisdiction matters. Tom has tried a variety of cases to verdict in state and federal courts, and he is well-versed in the mediation and arbitration processes.
In 2007 Tom served as an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where he taught Advanced Writing for Civil Litigation. Before completing law school, Tom was a student practitioner for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he obtained early trial experience and took a number of cases to verdict. Tom has also authored several articles for the Public Interest Law Reporter.
Tom was appointed by the President of the Illinois State Bar Association to sit on its Commercial, Banking and Bankruptcy Section Council which makes and considers proposed legislation impacting financial institutions and businesses. In connection with his position on the Council, Tom recently authored an article entitled, "Commercial Real Estate Foreclosures in Illinois – They’re Not Always the Same," which examines one of the many complex issues facing secured commercial lenders in Illinois.

- Represented lender in foreclosure of retail / food service property
- Represented lender in foreclosure and mechanics lien litigation arising from a stalled, major homebuilding project
- Represented bank in defense of class action filed under the Electronic Funds Transfer Act
- Represented advertiser in defense of class action filed under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act
- Represented judgment creditor in efforts to collect multi-million dollar judgment involving fraudulent transfers by insiders
- Represented numerous general contractors in defense of catastrophic liability claims

- Commercial real estate foreclosures in Illinois—They're not always the same - Recent economic indicators suggest that commercial foreclosure filings will see a significant increase in the near future. Tom Lombardo's article focuses on one particular issue that has recently been the subject of debate in foreclosure circles—the statutory right of reinstatement—and whether it can be waived in commercial mortgages.
