Steve practices in the firm's litigation department. Steve primarily works with commercial lenders, financial institutions, corporations, and limited liability companies whose disputes involve both state and federal forums. He has served as the lead attorney on a number of state court matters, including Superior and Land Court suits, where he has obtained judgments and negotiated settlements in the interests of his clients. Steve also works closely with partners at the firm in the litigation of complex commercial transactions, including fraudulent transfers, equitable subrogation, claimed violations of G.L. c. 93A, breaches of contract, and unjust enrichment claims.
Representative Cases
- Obtained dismissal of suit against banking institution and employer based on negligence and violations of Uniform Commercial Code in connection with employer's distribution of retirement plan benefits to allegedly improper party and bank's alleged improper payment of benefits check
- Assisted in successful representation of commercial lender in litigation involving multi-million dollar renovation of downtown condominium complex, and claims brought by the general contractor against the owner and lender under mechanic's liens statute, as well as unjust enrichment and Chapter 93A violations
- Represented secured parties to enforce rights under Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code in Superior Court actions
- Represented banking institution in litigation against limited liability company and guarantors following sale of self-storage facility at foreclosure pursuant to commercial lending arrangement, resulting in settlement agreement
- Represented bank's assignee in Superior Court litigation to enforce contested commercial loan arrangement, obtaining final judgment and damages following two-day evidentiary hearing; thereafter, successfully defended the judgment in the Massachusetts Appeals Court
- Successfully argued on behalf of defendant product manufacturer before three member arbitration panel in products liability dispute involving claims of product defect and breach of implied warranty of merchantability, obtaining result of no liability
- Counsel in petition to partition suit
- Represented banking institution in defense of equitable subrogation action
